H-1B Technical Skills Training Grants Panel Orientation

Posted by Margaret Lamb - On April 26, 2011 (EST)

This recording serves to inform panelists serving on evaluation panels for H-1B Technical Skills Training grant solicitations of the specific evaluation criteria. Panelists will also be informed of their roles and responsibilities during the evaluation process.

The Department of Labor will make awards under the H-1B Technical Skills Training grants totaling approximately $240 million through two rounds of grants. This grant program will provide education, training, and job placement assistance in the occupations and industries for which employers are using H-1B visas to hire foreign workers, and the related activities necessary to support such training. This technical skills training program was authorized under Section 414 (c) of the American Competitiveness and Workforce Improvement Act of 1998 (ACWIA), as amended (29 USC 2916a). The Department will emphasize On-the-Job Training (OJT) through these grants, and will ensure that a portion of funds are awarded to grantees that provide training for occupations in the health care industry.
